Acceptable Use Policy

1. Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy defines the rules governing how all users — bidders, organisations, and their authorised representatives — may use the Auctioneer platform at auctioneer.com.ng. It exists to protect the integrity of auctions, safeguard all participants, and ensure the platform operates fairly and lawfully.
By accessing or using Auctioneer, you agree to comply with this policy. This policy supplements our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
2. Acceptable Use
You may use the Auctioneer platform to:
- •Register an account, complete identity verification, and maintain your profile
- •Browse listed assets, pay gate fees, and place bids in active auction cycles
- •List assets for auction, configure auction cycles, and manage your organisation's auctions
- •Receive notifications, payment links, and collection instructions through the platform
- •Communicate with platform support through official channels
- •Download your own bid history, receipts, and certificates
3. Prohibited Conduct
The following activities are strictly prohibited. Engaging in any of the conduct listed below may result in immediate account suspension, permanent ban, and referral to law enforcement where appropriate.
3.1 Auction Integrity
Bid rigging — colluding with other bidders to suppress competition, fix prices, or rotate winning bids across auction cycles.
Shill bidding — placing bids with no intention of paying, or bidding on your own listed assets to artificially inflate prices.
False payment confirmations — submitting fabricated payment evidence, forged receipts, or manipulated transaction references.
Manipulating outcomes — any attempt to influence, interfere with, or circumvent the automated winner determination process.
Bid retraction abuse — placing high bids to discourage competitors and then seeking to withdraw them.
3.2 Account Abuse
Multiple accounts — creating or operating more than one bidder account, or re-registering after a ban under a different identity.
Credential sharing — sharing your login details, session tokens, or two-factor authentication codes with any other person.
Impersonation — misrepresenting your identity, posing as another user, or falsely claiming affiliation with an organisation.
Transferred accounts — buying, selling, or transferring accounts between individuals.
3.3 Data Misuse
Scraping — using automated tools, bots, crawlers, or scripts to extract data from the platform.
Unauthorised data access — accessing, collecting, or attempting to access another user's personal information, bid history, or account data.
Data harvesting — collecting bidder contact details, organisation information, or auction data for use outside the platform.
3.4 Harmful Content
Misleading asset descriptions — listing assets with intentionally inaccurate descriptions, false conditions, altered photographs, or misrepresented specifications.
Fraudulent collection certificates — forging, altering, or falsifying collection evidence, handover certificates, or related documentation.
Offensive material — uploading content that is defamatory, threatening, obscene, or violates any applicable law.
3.5 System Abuse
Security bypass — attempting to circumvent authentication, access controls, encryption, or any security mechanism on the platform.
System overloading — deliberately sending excessive requests, performing denial-of-service attacks, or degrading platform performance.
Exploiting vulnerabilities — probing for, exploiting, or failing to report security vulnerabilities (report responsibly to security@auctioneer.com.ng).
Reverse engineering — decompiling, disassembling, or reverse-engineering any part of the platform software.
4. Reporting Violations
If you become aware of any conduct that violates this policy, please report it promptly. Reports can be made:

- •Through the in-platform reporting function (available on all auction and asset pages)
All reports are investigated confidentially. You will not face retaliation for making a good-faith report. We aim to acknowledge reports within 2 business days and provide an outcome within 14 business days.
5. Consequences
Violations of this policy are addressed proportionally based on severity, frequency, and intent. Actions we may take include:
For minor or first-time violations, with a clear explanation of the breach and expected corrective action.
Restricted access to the platform for a defined period, including exclusion from active and upcoming auction cycles.
Irrevocable removal from the platform, recorded permanently on your bidder profile and enforceable across all future auction cycles.
Referral to law enforcement and pursuit of civil remedies where conduct constitutes fraud, data theft, or other criminal offences under applicable law.
Bans are platform-wide and permanent. A permanent ban is recorded on your bidder profile and cannot be reversed. Banned users may not re-register under a different identity. Organisations whose accounts are banned forfeit any active auction cycles and outstanding remittances may be withheld pending investigation.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our platform, legal obligations, or enforcement practices. Material changes will be communicated by email to all registered users at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
